Job Summary
The Clinic Patient Account Representative / Receipt Clerk performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties related to insurance billing and collections. This position is responsible for monitoring outstanding insurance claims, resolving billing discrepancies, and ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement. The role also serves as backup support for registration, switchboard, and hospital receipting functions as needed.
This position requires strong customer service skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with others, independent problem-solving skills, and strict adherence to confidentiality and HIPAA regulations. Professional appearance and conduct are essential.
Essential Job Functions
- Monitor outstanding insurance claims and follow up with insurance companies at 45 days and thereafter until payment is received.
- Complete and submit insurance forms accurately within three (3) days of request.
- Respond to inquiries from patients, insurance companies, and other parties regarding charges and billing discrepancies.
- Prepare and maintain billing records, reports, and account documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
- Maintain current knowledge of third-party payer requirements and collection guidelines.
- Serve as backup for admissions/switchboard as needed.
- Submit reports requested by management in a timely manner.
- Maintain access to and safeguard confidential files and information.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year of healthcare billing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payer regulations (HMO, PPO, EPO, etc.).
- Proficiency with personal computers and standard software applications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to manage mental and emotional demands of the position.
