Job Summary
Sullivan County Memorial Hospital is seeking a professional, customer-oriented Admissions Clerk/Switchboard team member to ensure efficient patient registration, accurate documentation, high-quality communication, and exceptional customer service. This role handles switchboard operations, clerical responsibilities, cashiering duties, private pay follow-up, and must maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
Essential Job Functions
- Register patients promptly and accurately, collect signatures, insurance details, co-pays, and required documentation
- Perform switchboard duties with courteous and pleasant manner
- Perform cashiering duties and maintain a balanced cash drawer
- Responsible for sending clinic private pay statements
- Primary Contact for accounts outsourced to Private Pay Billing Company
- Compile an accurate patient census in EHR.
- Individual must be detail orientated, can multi-tasks multiple duties at the same time, and experience in Excel software
- Comply with HIPAA regulations, demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, punctuality, and respect for all patients and staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
- Frequent sitting, talking, and computer use
- Occasional standing, walking, kneeling, or reaching
- Infrequent lifting of 50+ lbs
- Ability to work near mechanical parts and in moderate to high noise levels
- Good visual, auditory, and manual dexterity
- Ability to work in stressful environments
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology desirable
- Prior healthcare or admissions experience preferred
- Strong communication and customer service skills required
- Bilingual ability a plus, but not required
